Google develops Starline - a system for 3D video calls with the effect of full presence

The goal of the project is to add the effect of almost complete presence to video calls, when subscribers who are thousands of kilometers away from each other communicate as if through glass, while being in the same room.

The project combines three key technologies – creating a 3D model of the subscriber, compressing data during transmission in real time, and visualizing the 3D image and voice at the other end of the"wire".

From the video published by Google, it follows that this system consists of several cameras, sensors and a large display located inside the stand. So far, Starline operates only in a few offices of the company, but by the end of the year, corporate demo samples will be installed.
