Icon launches home printing on Next-generation 3D printer

Although 3D-printed construction is still in its infancy, Icon has already printed both budget housing in Mexico and luxury cottages in the United States. Now she has teamed up with the prestigious design studio Lake|Flato Architects to create another home — House Zero.

It is currently being built in Austin, Texas, using the next-generation Icon Vulcan 3D printer.

This printer is designed specifically for the mass construction of single-story homes. It is maintained by a team of four people, and is managed via a mobile app.

House Zero is built on the already traditional technology. First, the printer creates the main load-bearing structures of the building from the patented concrete mixture. After that, the usual construction team starts working, which installs the roof, installs windows and doors, and lays communications.
